CEO - Principal NB Migration Law
Agnes Kemenes, the founder and CEO of NoBorders Law Group has been a successful migration advocate since 1998. Her rich experience in assisting individuals and businesses to achieve their migration goals stems from her own journey as a migrant.
Originally from Budapest, Hungary, Agnes arrived in Australia in 1987 without knowing English or having any connections in the country. Her personal experiences, including overcoming ‘Migration Syndrome’ and establishing her own migration practice in 1998 through dedication and hard work, give her unique insight into her clients’ situations.
In 2010, Agnes was a finalist in the Queensland Ethnic Business Awards. Her passion for people and Australia, combined with her professional and legal knowledge, resulted in a steady stream of clientele, primarily through referrals from satisfied clients. While managing a thriving practice, Agnes completed her legal studies at the Queensland University of Technology, obtaining a Bachelor’s degree and gaining admission as a lawyer.
Agnes also participates in various corporate and political functions, where she voices her opinions on Australia’s migration policy and establishes corporate alliances for her clients’ benefit. Known for her charisma, empathy, and innovative thinking, Agnes is dedicated to assisting clients throughout the migration process. She is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, Member No. 004.
Director NB Employment Law
Jonathan Mamaril is the director of NB Employment Law, focusing on providing practical value to clients. He advises on all aspects of employment law, including enterprise agreements, collective bargaining, and interpretation of modern awards. Jonathan has represented clients in unfair dismissal, general protections, and discrimination matters, from conciliation conferences to arbitration in the Fair Work Commission.
Prior to joining NB Employment Law, Jonathan worked as an Industrial Officer for a Trade Union and advised small to medium-sized businesses and not-for-profit organisations on all aspects of employment law at a mid-tier Brisbane-based law firm.
Jonathan regularly presents at seminars, conferences, workshops, and summits for industry associations, business owners, human resource professionals, boards, and executives. He is frequently consulted by media outlets, such as the Sydney Morning Herald, IntheBlack, ABC News, RPM, Property Observer, The Real Estate Conversation, and News.com.au, for his expert commentary on legislation changes and significant cases.
In addition to his professional commitments, Jonathan serves on the board of the non-profit organisation, The Foundation of Student Horizons, which helps disadvantaged youth in Australia and New Zealand realise their dreams through group travel and experiential learning. He is also a member of the Queensland Malt Whisky Society and Australasian Interim Executive Association.
Senior Associate
Michelle is a seasoned Senior Associate at NB Employment Law, bringing with her a wealth of experience in employment and workplace health and safety laws across Australia.
She holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice from Queensland University of Technology, complemented by a Bachelor of Behavioural Studies from the University of Queensland. Her academic background has provided her with a comprehensive understanding of the legal landscape, enabling her to serve her clients effectively.
Before joining NB Employment Law, Michelle gained valuable experience working with an employer association, the Fair Work Ombudsman, Crown Law (Workplace Relations), and several mid-tier firms.
Her expertise spans all aspects of employment law, work health and safety, discrimination law, and industrial relations. She represents clients in defending against unfair dismissals and general protections, drafts employment contracts, contractor agreements, and workplace policies. Additionally, she advises clients on managing ill and injured employees, genuine redundancies, and performance management of employees.
Associate
Darren is an Associate in the Employment Law team at NB Lawyers and has a broad background involving Employment Law, Workers Compensation and Litigation.
Darren holds a Bachelor of Laws, and a Bachelor of Arts and is a graduate of the University of Queensland.
Darren advises clients on a wide range of Employment Law, including unfair dismissals, general protections, managing injured and ill employees, anti-discrimination and sexual harassment complaints and investigations, disciplinary actions, assistance with drafting enterprise agreements and associated negotiations, union right of entry, and general drafting of appropriate policy and procedures and contracts of employment.
Prior to working for NB Lawyers, Darren has worked for law firms that provided employment law advice directly to employers in the chamber movement in Queensland, and also was employed with the Workers’ Compensation Regulator in Queensland. Darren regularly presented Employment Law Sessions at Chamber Roadshows across Queensland and training to employers and their staff.
Such experience has put Darren in good stead to advise clients on the traps and pitfalls associated with Employment and Industrial law.
Darren is passionate about providing advice that is both practical and instructive to his clients.
Associate
Dan Chen is a fluent Mandarin speaker and an Associate in the Employment Law team at NB Lawyers. His diverse experience ranges from industrial relations consulting to working with major financial institutions, providing him with a comprehensive understanding of the legal landscape.
Prior to joining NB Law Group, Dan served as an Industrial Relations Consultant, where he advised on employee termination, performance management, Award analysis, and Enterprise Agreements. This experience has equipped him to handle a wide range of employment law matters effectively.
Dan holds a Bachelor of Laws/Commerce degree from the University of Queensland (UQ) and a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice. Further enhancing his credentials, he has also undergone additional training in the area of Industrial Relations.
In addition to his expertise in employment law, Dan has extensive experience in conveyancing matters, mortgage securitisation, and consents. He has notably worked on developing procedures for the PEXA e-conveyancing system, showcasing his ability to adapt to new legal technologies.
Passionate about his work, Dan is committed to providing comprehensive advice that empowers clients to make informed decisions. His unique blend of experiences and dedication to client service make him a valued member of the NB team.
Lawyer
Thomas is a Lawyer in our Employment Law team. Tom’s passion for employment and industrial law was born during a career break in which Tom worked with numerous small businesses throughout the Australian wine industry. Following this, Tom sought out opportunities consulting in employment and industrial relations which led Tom to NB Employment Law where he was engaged as a solicitor.
Tom’s first legal role was as a Judge’s Associate in the Queensland District Court. Following this, Tom worked as a solicitor in property and succession practices prior to taking a career break with lead him to practicing employment law.
Tom holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice from Bond University.
In his spare time Tom operates a successful wine podcast and enjoys wine education, trail running and spending time with family.”
Lawyer
David is a Lawyer in the Employment Law team at NB Lawyers with previous experience working as an Industrial Advocate from early 2021. David has advocated for both employers and employees, providing advice in particular areas such as discrimination, dismissals, wage theft and employment-related disputes.
During his time as an Industrial Advocate, David appeared in more than 60 conciliations across the Fair Work Commission and the Queensland Human Rights Commission, achieving strong outcomes for many of his clients.
David holds a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Southern Queensland and a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice from the College of Law Queensland.
When not at work David enjoys expanding his knowledge of the guitar, playing tennis and is an active volunteer with the Queensland Bar Association.
Paralegal
Grace is a Paralegal at NB Employment Law. Grace is currently completing her Bachelor of Laws (Honours) at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) whilst working full-time at NoBorders Law Group within NB Employment Law. Grace has found her passion within employment law, initially being introduced to the IR law world within a Case Manager position at an Industrial Association advocating for employees.
Grace has since continued to develop her skills and is committed to providing top results for all employers. Assisting Senior Associate Michelle Chadburn, Grace is passionate about helping employers navigate the full range of employment law queries and issues, including unfair dismissals, general protections, employment and more. When not at work, Grace enjoys spending her time making and viewing visual art, brunching with friends, and collecting all things pink!
Lawyer
Ben is a Lawyer in the Employment Law team. He holds a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) from the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) and a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice from the College of Law.
He is passionate about everything employment law, having worked the roles of Workplace Relations Officer, Industrial Advocate, and Employment Relations Adviser across 3.5 years. Prior to beginning university, Ben spent 4 years as a Legal Assistant.
With a keen eye for detail and a strong desire for providing impeccable results, Ben takes great care and pride in the work he does for clients. He applies a practical and future-thinking approach towards clients’ needs. Having been on both employers’ and employees’ side, Ben understands the common issues both sides experience and endeavours to solve them.
Senior Legal Assistant
Tracey has a broad range of experience working across various industries. Her working career started as a receptionist with luxury and high-end hotel chains, such as Hyatt International, Hyatt Regency Coolum and Park Hyatt Canberra. After accumulating her experience in professional services, Tracey took some time off to be a mum.
Tracey has an international vision and work experience. For past years, Tracey has lived overseas for 16 years, establishing her skillsets while expanding career opportunities in Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia, Canada, Mexico and Indonesia. Over this time, Tracey worked in several industries, Education, Banking, Hospitality and Broadcast Technology and now law. With pragmatic approaches and rich experience in handling documentation; combined with a varied and wide overseas experience, Tracey has developed a greater acceptance, appreciation and understanding of people and cultures to bring to her new journey with NB Lawyers – Lawyers for employers
Junior Legal Assistant
Stacey is new to the legal world, but has a wide array of experience from previous positions. Her varied positions range from admin for the Brisbane Tech team at the Bureau of Meteorology, a dance teacher/receptionist at a dance studio to a Logistics Administrator at a NDIS construction company.
An avid motorsport fan, as well as a competitive ballroom dancer, Stacey likes to keep both her work and spare time busy. With such different hobbies, this has allowed her to be around a wide array of people and cultures. With a great understanding that there are many walks in life, Stacey is ready to help to the best of her ability, no matter the circumstances.
