Mr Shorten said Australia is an immigrant country since most of the citizens came to the country by air and sea. He stated, “There are a lot of refugee who might not only be the next Albert Einstein or a good taxpayer.” He believed that immigration is advantageous to the country and added that the Labor party will make sure that there are sustainable infrastructure and available support to new immigrants. The Party is backing an increase of the Australian immigration rate to support the Australian economy growth.
Mr Shorten and Mr Albanese are hoping to convince about 40,000 Labor members who will cast their votes for their next leader on Thursday, October 10. The new Labor leader will be announced on October 13.
