Innovation and Science Australia has advised the Government that they need to implement changes to the education, immigration and regulation sectors to promote science and innovation within Australia. 30 suggestions were made to the Government, some of which were to provide a greater insistence upon maths and science within school curriculums in Australia, further business investment into research and development and a change in the visa system to provide better opportunities for entrepreneurs and start-up companies to sponsor and access the brightest minds in the world.
Currently the entrepreneurs visa reformed in 2016 by the Australian Government is lacking considerably, with only one applicant for the visa in the past two years. The limitations in place for start-up companies in terms of sponsoring foreign workers on visas like 457’s also propose an issue, as without access to the brightest minds, how are we able to strive towards greater innovation.
