Update to ImmiAccount: Enhanced Online Access for Paper-Based Parent Visa Applicants

Update to ImmiAccount: Enhanced Online Access for Paper-Based Parent Visa Applicants

The Department of Home Affairs has recently announced an important update that will improve the visa application experience for families navigating Australia’s Parent visa pathway. As of 24 April 2025, new online functionalities have been introduced to ImmiAccount, allowing paper-based Parent visa applicants to access and manage key aspects of their application online.

Bridging the Gap Between Paper and Digital

While the Parent visa application itself must still be lodged on paper, applicants can now import their application into ImmiAccount once it has been acknowledged by the Department. This integration provides a more convenient and transparent way for applicants to engage with the process and stay informed about the progress of their case.

Key Benefits of the Update

By linking a paper-based application to ImmiAccount, applicants gain access to a range of helpful online services, including:

  • Uploading Supporting Documents
Applicants can upload essential documentation directly to the Department, helping ensure a smoother and faster assessment process.
  • Viewing Messages from the Department
ImmiAccount allows applicants to receive and view communication from the Department electronically, minimising delays associated with postal correspondence.
  • Updating Personal Details
Changes to contact information or other personal data can now be submitted online, ensuring records remain current and accurate.
  • Tracking the Application’s Status
Applicants can monitor the status of their application in real time, offering peace of mind and greater clarity on next steps.

Who Does This Apply To?

This new online functionality is available to all new and existing Parent visa applications, with one key exception: it does not apply to Parent (subclass 103) visa applications lodged before November 2018. These earlier applications remain outside the scope of the update and must continue to be managed through traditional paper-based channels.

A Practical Step Forward

This enhancement reflects the Department’s ongoing commitment to modernising immigration services and improving user experience. For many families, the Parent visa process can be complex and emotionally significant. The ability to engage digitally, even for a paper-based application, brings welcomed efficiency and transparency.

How to Import Your Application

The Department has published a step-by-step guide on its official website, detailing how applicants can import their paper-based application into ImmiAccount. This guide ensures that even those unfamiliar with the online portal can complete the process with ease.
